October 28 -  Ozarks Tours Program
Todd Carr, who recently published a book of photos of L.O. Trigg’s Ozark Tours in the 1930s and 1940s, is giving a power point presentation Sunday, October 28 at the Union County Historical and Genealogy Society’s Resource Center at 103 N. Appleknocker in Cobden.

The program begins at 2p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The Ozark Tours, actually three day camping excursions, were Trigg’s way of calling attention to the scenic wonders of Southern Illinois and the great potential of outdoor recreation in the area. Trigg, a newspaper editor and founder of the Eldorado Journal, is credited with promoting and publicizing the need for a national forest in Southern Illinois. The Shawnee National Forest was approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939.

Saturday, December 1: Christmas in the Village of Cobden.  The society will conduct a special exhibit at the resource center.
