Jane Clark Brown Resource Room

The Historical Society has been very busy on work to the Jane Clark Brown Resource Center. After acquiring the building the following has been done: electrical and plumbing work, dry walling, painting, new carpet and tile, and professional cleaning of the current tile. The society has spent close to $15,000 on building improvements. We greatly appreciate the support we have received for this project. We are still accepting donations for the project. Major donors will receive room dedications and all significant donors will receive recognition in the building. Contact Judy Travelstead (893-2567) or Patrick Brumleve (893-2067) to make or to discuss a donation. Our goal is to start moving our resource and genealogy documents into the building sometime this summer. We also plan to have programs and special exhibits in the building. Check local news publications for more information.

The room has a variety of books, files, and documents on Union County history and genealogy. The information is available on a limited basis during the hours of the museum.

Special arrangements to access the room during non-museum hours can be made (refer to the home page). It is advisable to contact the museum prior to visiting the resource room. The society does not currently offer any genealogy research services. We can only assist you in person at the resource room.

The resource room is named after Jane Clark Brown. The late Mrs. Brown was a long-time board member of the society, Anna native, teacher, and local historian. The room is dedicated to the memory of Jane and her devotion in the preservation of local history.

The society is always interested in receiving documents and items from Union County including the communities of Alto Pass, Anna, Cobden, Dongola, and Jonesboro. We are especially interested in family histories, photos, newspapers, Union County genealogy, and other related items. Photocopied documents are acceptable and we can also arrange for loans in order for us to copy/scan the item.
